Summary:
André Lanskoy (Russian-French, 1902-1976), Composition. Gouache on paper painting abstract composition.

Born in Moscow, Lanskoy settled in Paris in 1921 and became associated with the École de Paris. His work attracted attention following his participation in the Salon d’Automne in the 1920s, and he exhibited alongside artists including Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Léopold Survage and Ossip Zadkine. Although his early work retained figurative elements and reflected the influence of artists including Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Chaïm Soutine, Lanskoy increasingly turned toward abstraction during the 1930s and 1940s. His mature compositions are particularly recognized for their vibrant color, interlocking forms and rhythmic, mosaic-like construction.
